Financial Management Workshop

This training course, developed as part of the SOLARIZE project, is designed to strengthen both the managerial and technical skills of staff working in Research Infrastructures (RIs) directly involved in EU SOLARIS and the SOLARIZE project. It also targets scientists from associated R&D institutes who hold roles related to the management of EU SOLARIS.

Description:

This three-hour workshop provides researchers, project managers, and administrative personnel with a practical understanding of the financial rules governing Horizon Europe-funded projects. Participants will gain insight into cost eligibility requirements, funding rates, personnel cost calculations, budgeting practices, financial reporting obligations, and audit preparedness. Through practical examples and hands-on guidance, the course will strengthen participants’ ability to manage project finances, comply with Horizon Europe regulations, and support the successful financial implementation of research and innovation projects.

Eligibility criteria:

Project Managers, Accounting personnel, Research Support, Researchers. Priority will be given to applicants involved in project activities or management roles within EU-SOLARIS or the SOLARIZE project.

Specific goals:

By the end of the course, attendees will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamental principles of project financial management and cost eligibility.
  • Distinguish between different cost categories and applicable funding rates.
  • Apply budget transfer rules and manage financial resources within approved project budgets.
  • Understand the calculation and reporting of personnel costs.
  • Implement appropriate time-recording practices and supporting documentation requirements.
  • Identify and manage other direct costs, including internal invoicing and lump-sum budget implementation.
  • Understand financial reporting, payment mechanisms, and project audit requirements.
  • Improve compliance with funding regulations and reduce financial management risks throughout the project lifecycle.
