INTRODUCTION TO INNOVATION MANAGEMENT

This training course, developed as part of the SOLARIZE project, is designed to strengthen both the managerial and technical skills of staff working in Research Infrastructures (RIs) directly involved in EU SOLARIS and the SOLARIZE project. It also targets scientists from associated R&D institutes who hold roles related to the management of EU SOLARIS.

Description:

This 8-hour workshop provides participants with a practical and structured understanding of concepts and practices on innovation management, from identifying opportunities and generating ideas to evaluating solutions and building an innovation-ready culture. Participants will explore proven frameworks such as Design Thinking, Business Model Development and how Innovation can help build Strategy. This course is ideal for participants with limited familiarity on innovation management concepts who are involved in new initiatives, project planning, or organisational transformation.

Eligibility criteria:

Priority will be given to applicants involved in project activities or management roles within EU-SOLARIS or the SOLARIZE project.

Up to 50 people.

Specific goals:

By the end of the course, attendees will be able to:

  • Understand the key principles, models, and terminology of innovation management
  • Understand Intellectual Property
  • Apply tools for idea generation, problem exploration, and solution testing
  • Understand and Develop Business Models Plans
  • Design and manage innovation pipelines and portfolios
  • Support and cultivate a team culture that encourages creativity and experimentation

10:30 – Intellectual Property Introduction to intellectual property rights and their role in innovation.
11:30 – Open vs Closed Innovation Comparison of open and closed innovation models, including benefits and challenges.
12:30 – Tools for Innovation Management Overview of practical tools to support innovation processes and decision-making.

Day 2 – 24/04/2026 (09:00–13:00 CET): Evaluation, Experimentation & Culture

10:00 – Managing Innovation Projects Approaches and tools for planning, executing, and monitoring innovation projects.
11:00 – Communicating Your Ideas (Mini Pitch) Practical guidance on presenting and pitching innovation ideas effectively.
12:00 – Building an Innovation Culture How to foster a culture that supports creativity, experimentation, and innovation.
