
Great Success in Almería with 2nd EU-SOLARIS Doctoral Colloquium and 1st Summer School
June 11, 2025The winners of the EU-SOLARIS ANNUAL AWARDS 2025, selected by unanimous consensus of the Scientific & Technical Committee (STC) of EU-SOLARIS ERIC, were formally honored on June, 4, during the closing ceremony of the 2nd EU-SOLARIS Doctoral Colloquium 2025.
The awards were presented by the Managing Director of EU-SOLARIS ERIC, Dr. Diego Martínez, in a ceremony that highlighted the exceptional work of each recipient.
It was a true honor for EU-SOLARIS to present these distinctions to the recipients in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the field. The ceremony, held on in Almería, featured short project presentations by each awarded team, prior to the concluding lunch of the event.
The 2025 awardees are:
Category: “BEST DOCTORAL THESIS IN THE FIELD OF CST TECHNOLOGIES & THEIR APPLICATIONS”
Doctoral Thesis: ‘Advances in Optimal and Predictive Control Approaches for Solar Thermal Systems Enhancement’
Lead Recipient: Dr. Igor Pataro (Universidad de Almería)
Team Members: Dr. José Luis Guzmán Sánchez, Dr. Juan Diego Gil Vergel.

Category: “OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE IMPROVEMENT OF CST RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURES CAPABILITIES AND SERVICES”
Exceptionally, in this edition, two awards have been granted ex aequo:

- Development Title: “RESEARCH FACILITY TO IMPROVE THE RESOURCES MANAGEMENTS IN COOLING FOR CSP PLANTS“
Lead Recipients: Dr. Patricia Palenzuela and Dr. Lidia Roca (CIEMAT)

The award was received by Dr. Patricia Palenzuela, representing the lead recipients (Dr. Lidia Roca and Dr. Patricia Palenzuela).

- Development Title: “Automatic Heliostat Learning for in situ Concentrating Solar Power Plant Metrology with Differentiable Ray Tracing“
