Last week, Almería became a hub of innovation and knowledge in solar thermal energy thanks to two significant events organized as part of the SOLARIZE project and hosted by Plataforma Solar de Almería – CIEMAT.
2nd EU-SOLARIS Doctoral Colloquium (June 2–4)
Over three intensive days, doctoral researchers and students gathered to share advances, research, and insights during the 2nd EU-SOLARIS Doctoral Colloquium. The event featured high-quality presentations and dynamic discussions, highlighting the value of collaboration among experts in the solar thermal energy field.
The colloquium’s closing ceremony was a special occasion, featuring the EU-SOLARIS Annual Awards presentation recognizing the best works in categories such as “Best doctoral thesis in the field of CST technologies & their applications”, and “Outstanding contribution to the improvement of CST research infrastructures capabilities and services”.
Attendees also had the opportunity to participate in a guided tour of the Plataforma Solar de Almería, gaining firsthand experience of the cutting-edge facilities and technologies that make it a global benchmark.
The program also included fun outdoor activities to encourage networking and informal interaction among participants.
1st EU-SOLARIS Summer School: Sustainable Water Management in CSP Plants (June 5–6)
Following the colloquium, the last two days hosted the inaugural 1st EU-SOLARIS Summer School focused on “Sustainable Water Management in Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) Plants.” This event featured top-tier speakers who delivered lectures and workshops diving into the challenges and innovative solutions for efficient water use in the sector.
A Very Positive Outcome and Looking Ahead
Both events were a great success, noted not only for their technical and scientific quality but also for the energy and enthusiasm of all participants. These gatherings undoubtedly strengthen collaboration within the solar thermal energy community and open doors to new opportunities and projects.
