The SOLARIZE Mobility Programme continues to provide unique opportunities for researchers to advance their scientific careers through international experiences, hands-on experimental work, and collaboration with leading research groups.
In this context, Alejandro Bueso Sánchez, a PhD researcher, has successfully completed a mobility stay at the University of Évora, where he collaborated with the Renewable Energies Chair Group. During his stay, he worked under the supervision of Dr. Pedro Horta and Dr. Maria Helena Novais, and closely collaborated daily with the researchers Ricardo Silva and Frederico Felizardo.
As part of his mobility experience, the researcher shared his motivations, achievements, and overall assessment of the stay:
What motivated you to participate in the SOLARIZE Mobility Programme?
“What motivated me was the unique opportunity to collaborate with the research group at the University of Évora and work directly at their Membrane Distillation pilot plant. I was driven by the challenge of experimenting with highly concentrated real brines, moving beyond the laboratory to face real-world problems and develop feasible technical solutions for treating complex water streams.”
What has been the most valuable part of your stay?
“The most valuable aspect was gaining hands-on experience operating the plant with highly concentrated real brine and achieving system performance beyond expectations, reaching a higher overall recovery factor than anticipated. Beyond the technical achievements, the human side was equally important: the network of contacts I built and the excellent working environment made it possible to overcome every challenge.”
Would you recommend this experience to other researchers, and why?
“Absolutely. The value of this experience goes beyond the immediate positive impact on a CV. It lays the foundation for future joint collaborations and is the best way to start building or strengthening an international network of contacts, opening doors to opportunities that would not arise otherwise.”
